Teddy Wilson Jr.

Making her Broadway debut in Cats: The Jellicle Ball this month, Teddy Wilson Jr. joins us On the Couch. Stepping back onto the runway in the role of Sillabub, she previously played the role at PAC, but you may also recognize her recently from Drag: The Musical. Teddy gives us one of the most iconic moments in the show, although, of course it might be a little different in this reimagined version than in your memory. Read below for our full interview.
What do you consider to be your best asset?
My Legs, the one thing I won’t be humble about!
What was your proudest moment?
This sounds vain but it’d have to be my 26th birthday party. I realized at this moment that I was surrounded by some of the best people out there and that my support system is one many would pray to have. I’m very proud of the people I get the privilege of calling my friends.
What is your favorite drink?
Simply in love with a freshly opened ice cold sprite. Burns in the best way.
What is your favorite food?
Give me a potato in any form and I’ll be the most content. However I wish I could both financially and physically afford to get a seafood boil everyday.
What is your favorite condiment
I could put ranch on just about everything. It is THE universal condiment but BBQ is a close second.
What is your current obsession?
It’s gotta be a tie between Love Story and Bridgerton. What can I say, I’m a sucker for some romance, good writing and pristine acting!
If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be?
Revenge Sleep Procrastination. I have a terrible habit of staying up too late after a busy day. But my time to sit and do nothing is so very important to me.
What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most?
I pray each day to be a season regular on a really good 6 season Dramedy television show that all the girls live for. Somebody call Shonda Rhimes and tell her to put me on!!
What is the one thing you waste too much money on?
Waste is a strong word but I simply cannot walk out of a Sephora having not spent a bag on skincare. In my defense the skin is the largest organ and deserves to be treated well.
What is the one activity you waste too much time doing?
I LOVE a shower, it’s my sacred time. And I will spend an exorbitant amount of time in the bathroom. Blasting music, singing full out, and rubbing said overpriced skincare on my face.
What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health?
Mmmmm could quite possibly be the rise of fascism in the country but also high fructose corn syrup.
What’s the single best trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
Good manners haha! My parents were very strict about the Dos and Donts of life. And yes there are right and wrong answers. Be kind, be thoughtful and try not to inconvenience those around you.
What’s the single worst trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
I love to be home and I think I get that from them. When I worked from home I simply did not have to leave, not even to get groceries. That was something I was totally content with.
What in the world most thrills you?
Meeting new people. It can certainly be a terrifying experience because you truly never fully know who you’re gonna run into. Could be another acquaintance, a new best friend or who knows, the love of your life.
What current trend in popular culture most irritates you?
The co-opting of a cultural practice that the internet gets ahold of, yet somehow people still manage to misinterpret. That and they never try to learn where that popular trend might have originated. Like do you truly know what “Clock it” means?? I have to assume not if you’re tapping your pointer finger to you thumb while saying it.
What was the most embarrassing moment you’ve ever experienced on the job?
I fell twice… back to back. In my first performance SNOB (Saturday Night on Broadway) at the end of Act One of Cats: The Jellicle Ball. Still reeling about it as I write this…
What is your favorite place in the world?
Disney is competing with my bed for the happiest place on earth.
What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner?
I am such an easy person, but that means easy to make happy and easy to upset. All I want to be is prioritized and considered. To know that my happiness is what makes you happy just the way your happiness is important to me.
Do you prefer the company of dogs or cats?
Historically, I’ve lived with many kitties but contrary to my Broadway debut, I’m much more of a dog person.
What would have to happen to make today the best day of your life?
Viola Davis taking me under her wing as here acting protégé. I need her to teach me her ways! That and a personal invite to an Adele concert by Adele herself.
What is your personal motto?
You are most responsible for your own happiness and ensuring you aren’t a detriment to anyone else’s.
