Steve Bargonetti
Joining us on the couch this week is Steve Bargonetti, fresh off of a Tony nomination for Best Original Score for Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. A guitarist and music director with many Broadway credits, Steve achieves a rare feat of a Tony nomination for a play in the Best Original Score category. Read out interview below.
What do you consider to be your best asset?
My wife says PATIENCE. I applied that when teaching the 2 young men, Tripp & Cayden how to play guitar on Joe Turner. A bit of patience and eager students spells success! So, I agree, PATIENCE!
What was your proudest moment?
Auditioning for the Broadway show: Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, and getting the guitar chair at 21 yrs old. It was surreal, as I also met my future wife who was Supervising Producer on the show for RKO/NEDERLANDER PRODUCTIONS.
What is your favorite drink?
ALIVE MUSHROOM ELIXERS
What is your favorite food?
ITALIAN, preferably vegan Italian, but regular Eggplant Parmigiana works every time! Yum.
What is your favorite condiment?
SALSA & GREEN CHILIS on organic tortillas w raw organic cheese. Yum.
What is your current obsession?
My current obsession is actually my life’s obsession — playing guitar! FYI: I was born with a guitar birthmark on my leg! Truth! 🎸
If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be?
Eating too much organic ice cream!!
What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most?
Winning a Tony Award. 👍🏽
What is the one thing you waste too much money on?
My wife says GUITARS! And, I have to agree
What is the one activity you waste too much time doing?
Tweeking guitar…especially bridge filing!!!
What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health?
Breathing bad air.🌬
What’s the single best trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
PUNCTUALITY, that being early is on time!
What’s the single worst trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
Cracking my knuckles.
What in the world most thrills you?
Great music played by great musicians, not computers.🎶
What current trend in popular culture most irritates you?
The blatant disrespect for each other.
What was the most embarrassing moment you’ve ever experienced on the job?
Coming to a 7pm Broadway show for Lena Horne, late. Show in full swing and I try to do a Chuck Berry chicken walk across front of stage to get to my seat w Lena glaring all the time. My relief was when audience applauded, and Lena smiled! Whew!
What is your favorite place in the world?
THE JERSEY SHORE!!!!
What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner?
True Love💜
Do you prefer the company of dogs or cats?
Dogs.
What would have to happen to make today the best day of your life?
🏆Winning the Tony Award for Best Original Score.
What is your personal motto?
PERSISTENCE & DETERMINATION alone are Omnipotent! 🙏🏽
