New York, NY (April 9, 2026) – Concord Theatricals is thrilled to announce that it has acquired worldwide licensing rights to Samuel D. Hunter’s critically acclaimed drama Little Bear Ridge Road for its Samuel French imprint. For more information, please visit concordsho.ws/LittleBearRidgeRoad.
“I’m thrilled that Little Bear Ridge Road is going to be available for licensing through Concord and Samuel French,” said Hunter. “I have been collaborating with them on many plays for many years now, and I’m so happy that they have acquired my Broadway debut. I look forward to working with this wonderful team on finding homes for Little Bear around the world.”
“Little Bear Ridge Road so beautifully demonstrates Samuel’s singular ability to find powerful connection in the most mundane of life’s challenges,” said Amy Rose Marsh, Senior Vice President of Artistic Development for Concord Theatricals. “The characters in this play are raw, vulnerable and elegantly complex. As Samuel’s licensing agent, we look forward to seeing actors around the world give these characters humanity and life.”
In the outer limits of rural Idaho, the last two estranged members of the Fernsby family tree – a reclusive aunt and her gay nephew – reunite to sort the mess left behind after the passing of a troubled family member. They now face an uncomfortable and universal question: How do we deal with other people? And, is connection more trouble than it’s worth? As their relationship begins anew, the two reluctant Fernsbys, separated by age and experience, start to understand the joys and perils of letting someone else into your own story, even if only for a moment.
“Hunter’s writing has a clarity, delicacy and crisp simplicity,” The Wall Street Journal declares. The New York Post writes, “It’s a hard-hitting, hard-laughing show that combines topics that you arrive at the theater not itching to confront… into an absorbing story you leave wanting much more of.”
Little Bear Ridge Road opened at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Illinois on June 13, 2024, running successfully for two months. The show then transferred to Broadway’s Booth Theatre on October 7, 2025. The production marked Hunter’s long-awaited Broadway debut after more than 15 years of notable work off-Broadway and in London’s West End. The production featured leading actors Laurie Metcalf and Micah Stock and opened to rave reviews and a Critic’s Pick from The New York Times.
A recipient of a MacArthur “Genius” Grant and hailed by The Wall Street Journal as “one of the country’s best playwrights,” Samuel D. Hunter has firmly established himself as one of the foremost chroniclers of the modern American soul and a vital voice in the American theatre. His plays, including The Whale (adapted into an Academy Award-winning film), A Bright New Boise, Greater Clements, Pocatello, Lewiston/Clarkston, The Few, The Harvest, A Permanent Image and A Case for the Existence of God, are celebrated for their emotional precision, unflinching humanity and deep connection to the interior West, particularly his native state of Idaho.
